Neonatal Sibling Visitation Program
Neonatal Sibling Visitation Program
Big brothers and sisters are excited to see their new sibling, but when mom comes home and baby doesnt, kids might have some questions. That is why we have created the Neonatal Sibling Visitation Program. Older children are encouraged to visit their new sibling(s) while he/she is admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
So, Child Life Specialists at Sunrise Children's Hospital have designed a class for children between the ages of 5-12 with siblings in the NICU. This class is a perfect tool for preparing children for what they will see and what they should do.
In this class, children will:
- Learn about the equipment they might see
- Learn how to wash their hands
- Find out what to wear in the NICU
- Participate in a fun activity
This class is offered several times a month. For dates, check our community calendar. Parents, please remember to bring a copy of your visiting childs immunization record.
